Gin Explorer Review & Recipe | Jess & Josh Cook

My love of gin started when I was on a diet and was tirelessly googling what alcoholic drink had the fewest calories and G&T cropped up in every article I read. So I started drinking G&T’s whenever I went out and now it’s my favourite, go-to tipple.

Gin Explorer offered to send me their July subscription box and so, obviously, I jumped at the chance.

If you’ve never heard of Gin Explorer, they’re a gin subscription box where you are sent a selection of mini bottles of gin straight to your door each month. It’s not just gin though, you’ll also get a selection of mixers and other little surprises too.

In my box I received four mini bottles of gin: a JJ Whitley Elderflower gin, Persie Zesty Citrus gin, Conker Spirit – Dorset Dry Gin and Hayman’s London Dry Gin. Along with the gin I also got two bottles of tonic from Original Tonics, one berry flavour and another citrus tonic.

In addition to all this, there was a little pot of Habas Fritas which are fried and salted broad beans, a snack from Spain. We’ll definitely be on the hunt for where we can find them in the UK, or maybe we’ll even have a go at making them ourselves.

Everything came packaged nicely and it was a really great parcel to receive through the door. The gins are all excellent quality and the tonics are refreshing and original.

To purchase a Gin Explorer subscription box you can pay monthly (£24.99), quarterly (£69.99) or yearly (£279.99) and cancel any time. Personally, it’s not something I would subscribe to every month but it’s definitely a great idea for a gift or if you want to treat yourself now and again.

I had a go at making a cocktail with the contents, so here’s the recipe for you to try:

  • 4 tablespoons of elderflower gin
  • a bottle of berries Original Tonic
  • 1 lime
  • 1 tablespoon of elderflower & apple cordial
  1. Mix the gin and cordial together in your glass and add a squeeze of lime.
  2. Top with tonic.
  3. Garnish with a wedge of time.
  4. Easy peasy! Sit back and sip on your cocktail.
