Review: The Tempest Inn | Jess & Josh Cook

It’s a well known fact that Josh and I love to eat out. We very rarely go to the same place twice (unless it seriously impresses us) as we love to try new restaurants and cuisines.

However, living in Brighton is expensive so we’ve had to cut back on the number of times we eat out (from around 2-3 times a week to 1-2 a month) since moving into our overly priced flat on the seafront. Then along came Wriggle…

Wriggle is a great way to discover Brighton restaurants and also save a bundle in the process. We discovered The Tempest Inn and guys, it was seriously one of the best dinners we’ve had in a long while.

Processed with VSCO with c1 presetSaturday evening we popped down to the seafront (basically our front garden) and had a few drinks on the beach before heading to The Tempest Inn armed with our two Wriggle vouchers. I’d bought a voucher for any 3 small plates for £9.95 (would have been £15) and Josh chose the 1kg of mussels with chips and a glass of wine for the same price which would have been £17.20 so the savings for a couple like us who are trying to save money is pretty awesome!

I think it’s fair to say that if we hadn’t found this voucher through Wriggle, we probably never would have tried The Tempest Inn. We’ve got a whole bucket list of restaurants to try in Brighton and because this is a beach bar it never would have occurred to us to head down! The interior is decorated like a cave and there were some of my fave tunes playing throughout our evening (90’s r&b, in case you were wondering).

I have never seen Josh eat as fast as he ate this kg of mussels. Cooked in a white wine sauce, I pinched a few and can confirm they were delicious.

My three “small” plates, obviously I couldn’t resist a mac n cheese which is made using local cheese. I couldn’t finish it all off there was so much food!

Popcorn Mussels. I’d never heard of anything like it before so I had to give them a go and they were so good. Cooked just like popcorn chicken it was definitely an interesting twist on the dish. I loved it and Josh even after his meal finished my portion off.

GUYS! We’ve finally done it! We’ve found squid that might have been even better than the squid we had on holiday last year. It’s a miracle. Fire Kraken squid, perfectly tender, crispy batter. Just. So. Good.

Overall, we had a lovely evening with delicious food and we’d definitely recommend you head down there to check out their menu.

*Wriggle provided us with Wriggle credit to try one of their venues and write a review but obviously, all opinions are our own*
