Getting to know the bloggers on Pancake Day

I thought for Pancake day it would be nice for me (and you guys) to get to know some of our fellow bloggers a little better and is there a better way to do so then by bonding over pancakes?!

Ellie’s blog is full to the brim of the most indulgent cakes, cookies, cupcakes and treats. She turned to baking lots of delicious food when she found out she had a pretty big food intolerance, which sucks for her but worked out for us! She’s got three guinea pigs, is a massive animal lover and you can expect her house to be full of animal toys! Here’s what she had to say about Pancake Day…

1. Do you look forward to Pancake Day?

Absolutely! What other day of the year is it socially acceptable to eat pancakes for every meal? Obviously I have pancakes throughout the year, but pancake day is the big one really, isn’t it?

2. Do you/your family have any Pancake Day traditions?

Yes, if by tradition you mean ‘traditional to eat as many pancakes as possible then take the next day off work with a pancake hangover’. That is what you meant, right?

3. Do you prefer sweet or savoury pancakes?

Well here’s the thing. My favourite pancakes are salted blueberry pancakes. I fry them in salted butter with a little sprinkling of salt in the mixture, then the blueberries just pop in your mouth. It’s amazing.

4. Do you have any pancake fail stories?

I don’t know if this counts but when I first started going out with my boyfriend I made him some chocolate chip pancakes, and they were so rich he didn’t eat for the rest of the day. Ever since then he’s always been afraid that making pancakes means he’ll lose a full day to the bloat!

5. What are your favourite pancake toppings?

Anything and everything, although I can’t have citrus so lemon and sugar is out of the question. Maple syrup…Yes…*turns into Gollum of the pancake world*

6. Do you prefer Pancake Day or Valentine’s Day?

Pancake day, obvs.

About 2.30 in this video is a great bit about pancake day <3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFlTuhl7LU

Andrew is a massive GBBO fan (like the most of us!) and has played along to a lot of the GBBO challenges on his blog. His biggest cooking inspirations are Mary Berry and Nigella Lawson which shows as his blog is full of amazing food from the Peanut Butter and Jelly Layer cake – pictured above – to Mince Pie Pinwheels at Christmas time. Here’s what Andrew has to say about Pancake Day…

1. Do you look forward to Pancake Day?

Pancake Day, or Shrove Tuesday as it’s more traditionally known, is a good day. It’s a day in which cake is eaten all day and I am okay with that. Pancakes are also so easy to make, simply mix flour, eggs, milk and sugar and you’re ready to go!

2. Do you/your family have any Pancake Day traditions?

We don’t really have any big pancake traditions but we will make and eat them!

3. Do you prefer sweet or savoury pancakes?

A savoury pancake is just not right in my opinion. Pancakes have to be eaten with lemon and sugar for me, that’s the only way to eat them. People like it with Nutella and banana but even for a sweet toothed person like myself, I really don’t like Nutella in a pancake. I’m sorry!

4. Do you have any pancake fail stories?

Although we don’t have traditions or anything, I do remember once making pancakes on my own when I was 14. I forgot to put any sugar in and overworked the (American-style) pancake batter and they were bland and like rubber. This was at a time when I wasn’t that good at baking so I didn’t know things like overworking gluten.

5. What are your favourite pancake toppings?

Lemon and sugar is a classic pancake topping, you just can’t beat it.

6. Do you prefer Pancake Day or Valentine’s Day?

I hate Valentine’s Day with a passion. The commercialisation; why is it only on a random day in February do we share our love for people? If we truly love someone, we can and SHOULD show our affection on any day; giving someone a bunch of 12 red roses bought from a petrol station loses its romanticism and charm slightly. My reasoning does make me sound bitter for not being in a relationship but I know many people with this train of thought.

Cate is one of my oldest friends and so I’ve been following her blog since day 1. You can expect to find all sorts of recipes on Cate’s blog from the Spicy Tomato Jam & Avocado pancakes pictured above to Vegan Fajitas. Cate is a flexitarian which means her blog isn’t full of meat dishes but you can find a variety of vegetarian and vegan dinner ideas!

1. Do you look forward to Pancake Day?

YES!

2. Do you/your family have any Pancake Day traditions?

When I was a kid, my Mum worked a little too late for us to do pancakes but sometimes we’d get them if all the planets aligned. In the last few years a new tradition has been me cooking up a three course pancake meal (starter pancakes, main pancakes, dessert pancakes) and I think we’re on to a pretty great thing there.

3. Do you prefer sweet or savoury pancakes?

Sweet swings it every time. I’m a lemon and sugar girl.

4. Do you have any pancake fail stories?

No, I’m flipping great at pancakes (ha HA ha ah ahhaHA)

5. What are your favourite pancake toppings?

Lemon and sugar, that sweet crunch with the citrus is just the one.

6. Do you prefer Pancake Day or Valentine’s Day?

Please.

Happy Pancake day everyone! Drop us a link to your favourite pancake recipes below!
