Beef Tacos Recipe with Homemade Tortillas

We’re pretty big fans of Mexican food and we’ll probably do at least one Mexican dish a week. We love how easy it is to make your own tacos and tortillas so we always try to do this and we try to use a different protein each time, here are our beef tacos…


What You’ll Need (Serves 2)

  • 150g plain flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 40 ml sunflower oil
  • 400g beef, cut into strips
  • 1 red onion
  • 1 red pepper
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp chopped chilli
  • salt & pepper
  • 1 little gem lettuce
  • cheddar cheese grated
  • 6-8 tbsp natural yogurt
  • 1 tsp Lingham’s chilli sauce



For the tortilla wraps (makes 8): 

  1. mix flour, salt, baking powder and add oil and water
  2. mix into sticky dough and knead for a few minutes
  3. divide into 8 balls roughly equal
  4. leave to rest, 15 minutes
  5. using a well floured surface and rolling pin, roll out into very thin circles around 7-10 inches in diameter
  6. heat up a frying pan to medium/high
  7. fry each tortilla for around 60 seconds on each side until a little browned and bubbles are showing
  8. leave each wrap under a damp towel
  9. repeat for each wrap

For the beef mix: 

  1. cut onion and pepper into thin strips
  2. fry in oil on medium/high heat for a few minutes until softened
  3. add beef and cook for another 5 minutes until nicely browned
  4. add paprika, chilli and smoked paprika
  5. season with salt & pepper
  6. cook for another 5 minutes adding more oil if necessary
  7. mix natural yoghurt with Lingham’s chilli sauce
  8. grate cheese and shred lettuce and place in bowls
  9. serve tortillas with beef mixture topped with lettuce, cheese and chilli yoghurt
